Review: The Better to See You (Transplanted Tales #2) by Kate SeRine

I am getting addicted to this series, I absolutely love it! I have always loved fairytales, growing up with HC Andersen, the Bothers Grimm and the Nordic mythology here in Denmark, fairytales wasn’t in shortage, and I gobbled them up with enjoyment. Growing older, I still enjoy reading fairytales, so Kate’s Transplanted Tales is a series just up my alley.
So…. Lavender Seelie, the fairy solely responsible for landing all these fairytales in the Here and Now is in trouble. Way over her head actually. Ever since she came over to Here and Now, she has been drowning her sorrows in alcohol. The bottom of those bottles was very alluring. Not anymore though. Tess Little dragged her ass out of the mud and back into reality, making sure someone turned her back on the right path. Which is a good thing, right? But having flakey magic that you can’t control is dangerous under normal situations, trying to be sober and keeping calm around an egocentric “prince”… is challenging. Lavender have a “small” incident with Prince Charming and to break free of his hold and to start over, Tess sends her to the Refuge, a place for Tales that have trouble adapting to the Here and Now and never truly got over their unwilling trip here.
In steps Seth, the big bad wolf, or so he’s been labeled ever since he had his run in with Tess Little (which is AGES ago, but still…. People tend to remember that). He’s a growly, moody, keep distance kind of guy – or so he seems. As Lavender spends time with him, she gets small peeks at the man hiding underneath and chips away his armor piece by piece. Question is; will they be able to get their Happily Ever After? Or will Evil be able to tear them both apart?
I know I’ve said it before, but I’m going to say it again – I LOVE Kate SeRine and her Transplanted Tales Series. LOVE IT! Some of these characters we know, we’ve read about them, heard about them, even seen them on TV countless of times, but this… It’s different. Think you know Little Red Riding Hood? *snorts* Think again. Tess Little isn’t a little innocent girl on her way to her grandmother with a basket of goodies, she’s an Enforcer in the FMA (Fairytale Management Authority), one of their best actually.
Cinderella, Prince Charming, The Big Bad Wolf (Seth Wolf), Aladdin, Fairy Godmother (Lavender Seelie), all of them is there, and a ton many more. Every character that ever got into a story is here although they’re a bit different than what they used to be.
Every page is filled with action, love, magic, friendship and excitement, and I get drawn into Kate’s stories every single time. Once I start, I can’t stop until the book is done. It’s that good.
The relationship between Lavender and Seth is a rocky road and I thought it was a great match; both are scarred from previous experiences, have a hard time trusting anyone, afraid of letting go completely. It was beautiful and scary. I would love to talk more about their relationship, but if I do so, I’m afraid I will ruin the surprise and book for some – if you have read it, leave a comment in the post and let’s chat about it, I always try to leave out spoilers in my reviews, but in the comments, all bets are off! ;-)

So… Over all, what did I think of the book? The plot was amazing, with a villain I didn’t quite see coming (perhaps I should’ve… but I didn’t), I got to see some of my old favorites; Tess, Nate, Trish and Seth. And then some new ones that are hilarious!! (Gotta love the mayor in the Refuge Town *giggles*) The tension between Seth and Lavender is amazing and just perfect, the action, the chase, the show down… Oh boy. The ending is… intense and perfect. Absolutely perfect. The Better to See You is a wonderful continuation of Kate SeRine’s Transplanted Tales Series, and I’m eagerly jumping into the next book in line; Along Came a Spider.

Once upon a time, a spell went awry and Make Believe characters were cast into the ordinary world. And the results aren’t always happily ever after…

Everyone thinks fairy godmothers can do no wrong. But if not for a certain spell mis-cast by Lavender Seelie, Cinderella’s former fairy godmother, the Tales would not be stuck in the Here and Now. Fortunately for Lavender, she’s about to get a second chance at a happy ending…

The Refuge, a sanctuary for wayward Tales, seems like the perfect place for Lavender to start a new life—especially when she discovers an unexpected ally in Seth, the brooding werewolf who’s been typecast as a villain ever since his run in with Little Red Riding Hood. But when humans from nearby towns start turning up dead, their bodies mutilated with archaic Tale symbols, Lavender wonders if Seth’s deep sensuality has blinded her to the truth. And that distraction could put innocent lives in danger. Including her own…
